Perkins County Schools is Working
on a New Strategic Plan
Do you know what the mission is of Perkins County Schools? What about their slogan? The Perkins County School District is embarking on creating a 5-year Strategic Plan and they need your help. Over the next several months the district will be asking for your input through surveys, listening sessions, and focused interviews. One thing is obvious to the new administration and that is how important and central the school system is to the county. The ownership, participation, and overall emphasis on education are appreciated by the new leaders. The goal of a strategic plan is to develop a mission, vision, and goals that match the desires of the community. To achieve this the district needs all voices to be heard. By taking time to complete a short survey or attending a listening session your voice can be heard. The district needs and values your input.
First up will be a survey to gain input from students (3-12), staff, and parents/guardians. A survey link will be made available starting on Monday, January 29, through email, social media, and the school’s website for students and staff. On Wednesday, January 31, a parent/guardian survey will be distributed for completion. The parent/guardian survey will also be available for completion during elementary Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday, February 1. All surveys will need to be completed by Monday, February 12th.
Community listening sessions will take place Monday, February 19, at the elementary school from 6-7 PM and Wednesday, February 21, at the Jr./High School from 6-7 PM. The listening sessions will focus on four questions: What is the school district doing well? What are some obstacles the school district is facing? What needs to be in place for the school district to meet the district’s objectives?, and What would be a slogan that represents the district? Both listening sessions will be identical so that you can choose the one that best matches your schedule. Your input and participation are vital to creating a strong strategic plan for the district.
After completion of the surveys and listening sessions, the district will have a team of staff work to identify the key themes. Once the themes are identified, goals will be set and presented to the board of education for discussion and approval. Upon completion of this process, the district will develop a roll-out plan and prepare for implementation of the plan during the 2024-2025 school year.
